Euthanasia: Making the Decision
The decision to euthanize or “put to sleep” a pet can be the hardest decision any pet owner will make. Our doctors and staff are here to help guide you through this difficult process. Generally, pets are “put to sleep” to end their suffering from illness or infirmity, but the difficulty of letting go can be devastating. When euthanasia is sadly necessary our doctors and staff will ensure a respectful and compassionate process that will allow your pet to pass in comfort, dignity, and love.
Bereavement Services
At North Mecklenburg Animal Hospital we offer our clients the ability to honor and preserve memories of their animal companions. For a keepsake, the staff will lovingly make a clay print of your pet’s paw.
Cremation services are offered with ashes returned if the client wishes. Transportation, cremation, and return of the pet's ashes are carried out with the utmost respect and integrity.
If preferred and allowed in your city you may take your pet's remains with you for burial at home. Whatever decision the client makes our staff is here to help reduce the stress and provide compassion and understanding.
Bereavement – Loss of a Pet
When you lose a pet, profound sadness and grief are natural and expected responses that come with a wide range of emotions and reactions. These reactions and grief are normal and can be as sad and devastating as the loss of a family member or friend.
Don’t be afraid to seek counseling or join a pet loss support group. Your grief is real and there are trained professionals that can help you work through your emotions. If you have additional questions about grief support, please ask one of our doctors. Our staff is here to support you.
