Heartworm disease is serious and a potentially life-threatening illness that can affect both dogs and cats. Consistent treatment with heartworm prevention medication can prevent heartworm infection. Heartworm disease is curable; however, it is a very expensive treatment that takes place for several months.

Heartworm prevention requires a prescription from a veterinarian and for dogs a negative heartworm test within the last 12 months.
