Associate Doctor

Dr. Jenny Jones

Dr. Jenny M. Jones grew up in Miami, Florida with her older sister and younger brother. She and her siblings are first generation Americans, as her parents emigrated from Cuba. Her family moved to Charlotte in 2014, and it has been home ever since! Throughout her childhood, she loved being outdoors and playing sports. She played tennis competitively throughout all of high school, and she continues to play recreationally to this day. Dr. Jones was passionate about animal welfare from an early age. She spent most of her weekends in middle and high school volunteering for foster groups. Her first experience in the veterinary world was as a volunteer kennel attendant at an animal hospital as a teenager. From that moment on, she knew her heart was in working with animals!

She received her undergraduate degree at UNC Charlotte with a Bachelor of Science in Biology with a minor in Biotechnology. She gained experience in research assisting with a project studying the effects of Type 2 Diabetes on the muscles of the body. She also worked as a research animal technician where she monitored research animals and ensured that welfare protocols were followed. In college, she maintained a part-time job at an animal hospital, was a member of the Pre-Veterinary Club (with her now-colleague Monse Cuevas!), and joined the Kappa Delta sorority.

She went on to attend NC State for veterinary school. She loved being surrounded by others who shared her passion for animals. During vet school she developed and executed a clinical trial on a novel behavioral drug for dogs suffering from severe storm anxiety. She was also involved with the Student Veterinary Medical Association, the Student Chapter of the American Association of Feline Practitioners, the Christian Veterinary Missions Fellowship, the American Heartworm Society, and the campus-wide Comfort Crew initiative.

Her professional interests include behavioral medicine and developing a multi-modal approach to treat common behavioral disorders. Other interests include dermatology, pain management, and holistic medicine. She hopes to continue growing her surgery skills with the cutting-edge technology available at NMAH. She also looks forward to learning more about cancer treatment and additional offerings for pain management.

Dr. Jones lives with her husband and their two cats Bubbles and Jules. In her free time she still enjoys playing tennis, rock climbing, pottery, and sampling new breweries with her husband and friends. She is beyond excited to practice medicine at NMAH and serve the Charlotte community! She is thrilled to be part of the team!
