Dr. Rachel Spickler
Dr. Rachel Spickler grew up in Columbus, Ohio with her parents and the many creatures she brought home. It appears that her passion for working with animals started from a young age! Her pets included two cats, four dogs, a gerbil, and the occasional other critter. She received her Bachelor of Science in Molecular Genetics from the Ohio State University. There she participated in research on muscular dystrophy in a zebrafish lab. She also worked as a Veterinary Assistant at a practice in Columbus for five years.
Dr. Spickler remained at the Ohio State University for veterinary school. She participated in multiple extracurricular activities including the Symposium Fundraising committee of the Student American Veterinary Medical Association, Behavioral Enrichment for Shelter Dogs (for which she was a team lead), and Alpha Psi Fraternity (a professional veterinary medicine fraternity of which she was Vice President).
Dr. Spickler spent a year as an associate veterinarian at a general practice in Gastonia before joining North Mecklenburg Animal Hospital in 2021. Areas of interest include nutrition, behavior, and soft tissue surgery. She is also a self-proclaimed nerd who enjoys working in the lab and reading cytology.
When not working, Dr. Spickler loves playing frisbee with her husband, hiking with her dogs Gabe and Turq, running, kayaking, reading, and playing video games. She also has a sassy cat named Lana who thinks she runs the household.
